24 days. 335 miles. A march for dignity and the right to vote.
Farm workers walked from Delano to Sacramento not for headlines, but for something bigger: the freedom to choose a union without fear. AB 2183 was their hope, a shield against intimidation, deportation, and silence.
This wasn’t just a march. It was a pilgrimage. Families, allies, and field hands moved as one, step by step, demanding justice from a system that was broken and had been for far too long.

Farm Workers Hit the Road Fighting for Their Right to Vote
AB 2183, the Agricultural Labor Relations Voting Choice Act, was made to protect farm workers across California, so they can vote in union elections without fear of intimidation or deportation by growers, foremen, supervisors, and labor contractors.
On August 3, 2022, in Delano, farm workers, families, and allies set out on a 24-day, 335-mile march to the California State Capitol. Their goal was clear: to secure Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature on AB 2183 and make sure their voices are heard.

Digital Storytelling From the Frontlines of the Farm Worker March
On day 24, as the march reached the Capitol, I joined the United Farm Workers to help tell the story live from the march. Videos, photos, raw moments from the road. Not just to document it, but to make sure the world couldn’t look away.
Solution
Broadcasting Resilience As It Happened
More than 5,000 strong, marching for farm workers’ rights. Walking with them, I heard their stories of grit, struggle, and strength. I shared it all live on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, reaching voices in both Spanish and English. Snapping photos, gathering testimonials, capturing the fight in every frame to fuel the UFW Foundation’s story beyond the march.
And of course, the pets and pups standing strong with the movement.

Digital Advocacy That Helped Score a Win for Farm Workers
Marching with the crowd, I amplified their voices and shared live updates that brought our followers closer to the fight. The response was real, more eyes, more support, more momentum that carried beyond the road.
Every day after the march, 24-hour vigils kept the pressure on, demanding the governor’s signature. Then on September 28, 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom made it official, signing AB 2183, a major victory for farm workers across California.
Personal Takeaway

The Fight Continues
"There was an undeniable sense of empowerment in the crowd as we all marched together to the state capitol. Farm workers, families, and allies gathered to show their support for AB 2183 to demand that Governor Gavin Newsom grant farm workers the safe voting rights they deserve.

We marched alongside Dolores Huerta, who has been at the forefront of the farm worker movement and who continues to pave the way for farm workers, ensuring us that we are on the right side of history.

As we look to the governor to assist us in breaking down these barriers, we know that the work is NOT DONE. Now more than ever, we must continue to fight for farm workers to be heard!"
